I grew up in North Louisiana and kind of lived through the rise and fall of Evangel.
Some how they went from 1A to competing for the state championship against 5A schools and then back to 1A. Or something like that
I remember rumors of them recruiting and moving players families so they could play.

Ever since I was in high school, I have heard the "they recruit" claim about whatever HS team happened to be really good at that time. As for the private schools, I used to hear how they'd have their coaches volunteer at the rec leagues to pick out good pre-HS players and steer them to their program.
Whatever conversations go on behind closed doors, who knows. If the school reaches out directly I'm sure it's very subtle.
What is also true though, is that once a school gets hot and appears dominant, parents want their kids to play there, and will move their kids to that school without needing any encouragement. Back in the days when West Monroe was dominant, if you lived in Sterlington or Monroe or Calhoun, it wasn't much of a burden to your family to move to WM. It probably added very little to the parents' commute. How can it not be similar with Evangel- and they are a private school so I guess you don't have to go buy a house in their attendance zone either.
Some people are super interested in their kids playing high school ball on a good team. It may be weird, but that's how people are. At all these schools, it's probably less a case of the schools illegally recruiting, than it is of you build up the core of a good program, and the players will come.
