You don't have to pass a drug test to get a twic to my knowledge

A failed drug test will likely go on your DISA record and will follow you forever.

And to the guy saying its tough to get a job in this climate, what the hell do you do? Jobs are a plenty right now for engineers in La

When I worked at Chevron's Richmond Refinery, they never did.

Yeah right. And OP you might not be drug tested to get the job. But if you get hurt on the job, hurt someone else, wreck a company vehicle, etc. you better hope you're clean.

I used to work on a survey crew. We were surveying an overpass under construction. One of the surveyors walked right off the edge and fell 40'. fricked him all up. They gave him a drug test and he failed. The insurance company didn't give him a dime. The owner of the company helped him out, but he didn't have too.

Does anyone know about drug testing in finance/banking/accounting?

eta: do they test interns before or during the internship?

what's sad is it's more than likely he wasn't high at the time.

If they have government contract they have to. Or typically if they do onsite inspections at chemical facilities. I have been city engineer for a couple city's and have been subjected to random drug testing.

I've been working for a large firm +\-2500 Employess) for over 13 years and I've never been tested. I've only known one person that was and she was working in the field with someone who was caught smoking weed at work.

I had an internship at an O&G HQ. All interns were hair tested, including accounting and IT. From talking to interns at other O&G companies, this seemed pretty standard. Not sure about other industries.

any firm or business that works in fields regulated by DOT are mandated to test....basically, oil & gas or transportation industries...testing would be a piss test and would be pre employment, random, probable cause, and post incident/accident....

It seems like O&G tests everyone across the board. I would think I wouldn't get hair tested at a small private equity firm, but who know?

I found it easiest to give up the pot and not worry about drug tests.

The engineering firms in BTR (if you are talking about BTR, but this goes for most areas outside a major metro area) are fairly close knit. If you are shown the door for failing a drug test, most every firm is going to know, so the prospective of a career in the same area after failing a drug test will be slim.

Best advice in this thread.

At what point are you tested?

At the end of your penis, with a very larger syringe.

Seriously, don't get a job with an engineering firm. Tedious as hell and no stability. Go find your work where the equipment is actually being used. Much more satisfying.

And lay off the drugs. That's almost as dumb as working in an engineering firm.

I work for a large firm (53K-ish, but 95k-ish come Friday). We have random drug tests (follicle) but only for field staff. One guy got popped about every two months for about a year before they realized his name was in the system multiple times. He said he was getting a bald spot from all the tests

Our company does work in refineries and supposedly our insurance requires 10% of the employees to be tested monthly. And you will absolutely be tested on hire.

Pretty much every job you can think of piss tests. I've only known of one engineering firm in NOLA giving a hair test.

I can understand someone being in a tough position if they get laid off and need to find a job ASAP, but if you've been expecting to have to apply for a job for a while and still couldn't simply stick to booze, then you may have a problem.

ETA: This is EE based. I would imagine that civil would be more stringent since lives may be at stake, which is scary considering civil engineers are glorified art history majors.
