Thanks for all the feedback. I am definitely leaning toward the Engineered wood just because it's cheaper (which is nice) and seems like its' better on a slab foundation (which we are doing).

If on Slab, you are pretty much stuck with Engineered wood flooring.

if you go bamboo, do your home work

Make sure you are wise in what color...
Dark/wide planks are seemingly popular but it shows everything and can make space feel smaller

Take a look at some of the problems that moisture can cause on concrete slabs. Make sure it's sealed or that you put a good moisture barrier.

You build a house, but you live in a home. I have real wood (Some type of oak) and has done well over the last twelve years. It is banged up and scratched a little and we will get them refinished when the kids go off to college. Get what you want because it all gets banged up. Enjoy your new home. Also that first time your kid drops a toy and dents the floor, hurts. You forget about it eventually.

The only thing I will add that hasn't been discussed is get close to natural color instead of stained or dyed wood. This way scratches wont show as bad.

Bamboo is still a potential option but we've heard Engineered is better.

You can get engineered bamboo.

Mohawk makes some good ones. Another poster mentioned Crescent City, they are very good as well.

Coming back around, have gotten some samples from iFloor.com. Seems like the bamboo is of a very high quality and feels heavier/studier when holding it compared to the engineered wood.

Anyone else have bamboo experience?

For a cheaper option that looks great and water proof, check out allure wood flooring at Home Depot.

Bamboo isn't even wood .. It's woven grass that's highly sensitive to any moisture .. Good luck with that ..

I did tons of research and engineered wood ended up being the obvious choice for use on a slab in the New Orleans area. Saw/heard way too many negatives with bamboo.

I think I paid about $5.40/ft2.

That's kinda pricey? Or does that include install?

Select Red Oak goes for about $2.40 currently, unsure about what install price is.

My bamboo had been awesome for nearly 10 years. Perfectly finished right out of the box.

Direct glue down on slab.

Used in high traffic areas and it looks fantastic.

Did not use in kitchen or bathrooms.

Would use again in a heartbeat.
