Don't let the name fool you. The agency is much, much larger than you probably think and covers a wide array of issues beyond just energy issues. It actually has very large scientific and national security components.

My man, what responsibilities do you think the DOE has? Who do you think takes care of the US' nuclear arsenal and the nuclear propulsion used in Navy ships? Lord, some people could really use a civics class. The DOE has a lot of scientific clout in a lot of areas.
