I remember some comedian. Maybe Gary Owen? He said his manager booked him for a show in Selma and when he saw it on the schedule he was like "thats nice. A historical city you heard about in history class" then he said he got there.. And got his manager to get a hotel somewhere else. I remember he said something like "no wonder all they ever showed in Selma was people walking over a bridge",. I thought it was funny. Some might not.
