You have lived my life . I’ve had them
All.
When I am stressed, I have nightmares about mostly tornados, but also natural disasters. Trying to save my family in them.
During lucid dreams, I have endeavored to look into a mirror. This never works out…
In Lucid dreams, I have a que. light switches never work.
It happens often I realize I’m dreaming because it’s super dim and I can’t turn on a light.
All.

I've been told the REM sleep behavior disorder can be a precursor for things like Parkinson's, so we have that to look forward to!

Yes. I’ve figured that out. Only took me a few decades of trying to share my dreams to learn that….
So. I had a crazy dream last night… wanna hear it?
I try not to tell people…. But
Damn they are compelling and fun at times.

FYI, no one wants to hear about your dreams.

That’s neat.
Thanks for the encouragement lol.

Oh hell, but people who don’t normally recall their dreams are sure excited to share them with others.
They don’t know my struggles

I remember about 4 dreams a week. I have some common recurring ones:
-teeth falling out
-pulling gum out of my mouth but it never ends
-if there’s fighting or shooting, a lot of it is slow motion
-I also have intense arguments with my parents, but my real relationship with them is great.
I have trouble running in most dreams. I find myself getting on all fours and running like a damn dog.
I also have some weirdly detailed dreams. The other night I dreamt I was at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso. I found some old black athletes running around. They were the first to break the color barrier at UTEP, but this day they were running from gunfire. I’ve been to the stadium, but in my dream the concourses were wider, there were plazas everywhere. They were setting up for LSU playing UTEP. There LSU historical displays everywhere. My dream resumed (presumably after a bathroom break) and I was at the game. LSU dominated, but the fans were hostile and throwing things.
This made zero sense. At some point I was swimming to escape gunfire.

Thanks. I had the good fortune to spend time with a professor in Cape Town named Dr. Mark Solms, who has published many subject-related works if you're interested in reading more. He's the one who mentioned to me the link between REM sleep behavior disorder and neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's.
quote:
Mark Solms (born 17 July 1961) is a South African psychoanalyst and neuropsychologist, who is known for his discovery of the brain mechanisms of dreaming and his use of psychoanalytic methods in contemporary neuroscience.[1] He holds the Chair of Neuropsychology at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital (Departments of Psychology and Neurology) and is the President of the South African Psychoanalytical Association. He is also Research Chair of the International Psychoanalytical Association (since 2013).

I’ll look into his works.
Overall I have great sleep.
Go to bed on a schedule. Fall asleep quickly. 7.5 -9 hours sleep average.

I think there is validity to your statement…
Ive been accused of being too serious, too intense, and a micromanager all of my life.

quote:Interesting. I have in recent years had the ability to recognize I'm in a dream and tell myself to wake up with success. It doesn't always happen and I don't even know how to turn that function on or off, but when it does happen, I am grateful.
OP, the reason people remember dreams better than others is directly related to one's level of consciousness is daily life. Those who "sleep walk" thru their day are less likely to remember dreams, while those who live life intensly with conscious attention to the present moment will exercise those faculties in the dream world.
Take it as a sign of being in the moment in your waking life. You should attempt to awaken in your dreams so you can investigate those higher worlds.
To do so, try consciously pulling your own finger or jumping in place, placing the highest attention on this action. If you do this often enough, you will also do it in your dreams at some point. You will then know you're dreaming because your finger will stretch or you will float if you jump in place.
Your faculties of perception sound like they are attuned and prepared for more investigation of the higher worlds.

I'm getting crap sleep right now with two night owl children and I'm not dreaming nearly as much as I have in the past with great sleep. I'm too tired and too awake during the night to dream

Have you had the dream within a dream experience?
I’ve woken up from a dream where I start telling my wife about the dream, only to later wake up and discover that was also a dream.
