No. On both old and new cars. The gear that drives the speedometer/odometer on older cars doesn't turn if you pull the car. Sorry, it doesn't work that way. If I'm not mistaken it's "Driven" by the transmission. If it's in neutral it's effectively "decoupled" from the transmission and therefor it won't spin the gear that drives the speedometer.

New cars don't work that way. They use a vehicle speed sensor. Also, I wouldn't buy a car with an automatic transmission that had been towed that far UNLESS it was a front wheel drive and pulled on a dolly. In that case though, it wouldn't spin the odometer anyway.
