No. If Congress tried this there would be massive election consequences for both sides.
In this environment there would be a mass exodus of snowflake liberals to Canada. Conservatives wouldn’t support it either. My late father, a WW 2 vet and about as conservative as you could get, said after the Vietnam pardons in the 1970s, he’d be damned if he’d send his kid to war if others bailed. I’m sure there are lot of people with that attitude now, unlike the 60’s and earlier.

Our military machine has become a self fulfilling prophecy feeding on the taxpayer’s teets. It’s hard to fathom how much of our economy as well as political and corporate interests feed off of this military industrial complex.
No we don’t need a draft. Our military is far too bloated as it is. Imagine if we invested as much money in getting factories back in the US as we have in the F-35, or the jumbo jet that can shoot down missiles with lasers?

In Israel, a country where all their neighbors would love to wipe them out, there is universal draft - men and women - virtually all must serve a hitch.
I worked with an israeli company one time and met quite a few of their employees. It was comforting to work with women who had mastered the art of keeping a machine gun on target while emptying the clip into an adversary and wern't afraid to do it.
I can't imagine a draft of our current generation of young folks. Someone told me they are all fat and whimpy self posessed cowards with multiple pronoun personalities. This is not true. I have influenced at least three grandkids who would do just fine with an automatic weapon and 8 weeks of basic training. The other one could certainly fly a drone armed with an explosive warhead and plow it into a tank or APC, since he does that very thing about a thousand times a day on his X-Box. He is also pretty good at taking out a helicopter with a shoulder fired RPG and handles a light saber pretty well.
