Maybe but he also probably got half of his hits while they were still in their seats. And even when panic ensued, it was still close quarters.
The teachers were a "two for one" in that (so I heard) one round got them both.
I'm sure it wasn't his first time shooting a gun but it's not a given that he was an expert shooter, either.

So I'm reading now that they've collected 13 casings from inside the theater. We have 10 people that we know were hit right? That tells me that this guy wasn't just some crazy person with a gun. He had to be a pretty avid shooter to have that kind of a hit rate right?
It's definitely possible and likely but not necessarily true.

Yeah, lets say he was sitting close to the end of a row of 20 seats that were all occupied. All he really had to do is turn down the row, point, and shoot and he could hit quite a few targets without having to move his weapon much, if any at all.

They said that only 25 tickets were bought for the show. He hit almost half of the people in the theater. The chance that they all were sitting if the same 2 or 3 rows in unlikely.

See that thing attached to the pistol, it is bright as hell.
Yeah, but most CC weapons don't have lights attached.
That thing got a strobe feature?

Yeah, it's not Call of Duty though. It's not pitch black but it's dark. Once the first few shots go out the room turns to chaos. It would take a remarkable person to remain calm, pull a weapon and take out a moving target in a low light environment.
There are people who are trained to react to situations involving live fire who only see the threat and react. My sil has been in spots which many would curl up in a ball. He has told me of tight places he's been and says that he hardly ever pukes to start with. Mostly when its over if its really bad.
As far as off duty police ,I'd rather have a good Three Gun shooter. They burn enough powder to hit what they shoot at.
But to each his own. You do what you got to do.

Ah. Sorry, I haven't kept up with the details of the situation.
You're right that it's unlikely they were sitting in the same area but I guess we'll have to see as it unfolds.
Like I said it's entirely possible that he was an avid shooter. It's amazing what a little practice can do to improve your skills.

Yes. Lights are so small now you should carry one if you are carrying a pistol. My little Surefire Fury goes every where with me. It will blind the hell out of someone in a lit room.

I've got a Streamlight TLR1s on my Glock 17. I love that thing.

According to the available research your common sense isn't worth shite.
CDC Priorities for Reseach...

"Studies that directly assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns (i.e., incidents in which a gun was ‘used’ by the crime victim in the sense of attacking or threatening an offender) have found consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies.”
