yes, I have extensive handgun and rifle training and I always tell people even those who are at the most basic level, if ever engaged in a situation like the one last night, its better to take the fight to them. these people will show their true colors and either drop the gun or kill themselves, either way the fight is over. These people don't want a fight they want easy, scared, unarmed targets
Ideally, I agree with you. Aggressively engaging an active shooter in a situation like that is always effective in one way or another though I would hope that they would know the limitations of their skill set in order to to be effective while minimizing the risk of harm to others.

Nice.
I assume there are friendly/unfriendly/hostage situations?
Any reactive targets?

what percentage of CCers actually do this?
I have a CC and I shoot at the range 2-4 times a month. No tactical training, just stress free shooting. I call myself an above average shooter, but would probably shite my pants in a real life defense situation.

oh plenty of that as well.

its low...very low
Exactly. That's why I'm not going to trust my safety and the safety of my family to some other guy who has a CC but no training or some cop who's minutes away when it's seconds that count. I wan the ability to protect me and those I care about around me. That means (1) being armed and (2) being trained to use my weapon. Too many people make sure to take care of #1 while not doing anything about #2.

Reactive and steel targets make you never want to shoot regular old paper ever again.

If that doesn't get your adrenaline pumping, you need to check yourself for a pulse.

Hell, I love going to the range. This is especially true now that my son is 13 and starting to really get into shooting himself. I love the time we get to spend together there. Which reminds me, we need to get him and his .308 to the range and make sure his scope is still on.

Only time I conceal a weapon is if it is cold outside and I have to wear gloves.

you gotta start on paper before you get to the fun stuff. But the paper targets is where you can really perfect your shooting

Lasers and dry firing are very effective as well.
I fully believe that 20 mins of real, effective training can make an exponential amount of difference.

but in a dark movie theater??
If someone's child gets hit and killed by a do gooder, that do gooder will still get charged with manslaughter.
See that thing attached to the pistol, it is bright as hell. Manslaughter? No. Criminally negligent homicide in AL (a misdemeanor) most likely wouldn't make it past grand jury. Stopping an active shooter situation is different than almost any other situation. Civil liability sure.

Intro to Tactical pistol. We started from the ground up with firing body position, working double taps, changing mags and clearing jams in a hurried situation. Towards the end of the day we were shooting around a door frame in different situations. That was 3 years ago, but the training and knowledge I learned from them has made me much more confidant handling a firearm.
My girlfriend who has hardly shot before in her life attended the class a couple of weekends ago with her father and they both thought it was worth every bit of the $200.

So I'm reading now that they've collected 13 casings from inside the theater. We have 10 people that we know were hit right? That tells me that this guy wasn't just some crazy person with a gun. He had to be a pretty avid shooter to have that kind of a hit rate right?
