You can't beat it. Six nights cost me $490. Did you at least get the military promotional tickets?

No. Didn't even know they did that. My folks bought my kids tickets as a BDay gift. I just bought mine and my wife's. I'll definetely do that next year. How much were they?

Probably. The guy in charge of that and the magic bands was fired recently I think. It went way over budget and didn't have the returns he promised.

$169 for four days with Park Hopper (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios). To add the waterparks and Disney Quest bumped it up to $198. Essentially half price.

I wish I hadn't bought my tickets already, or I would have had GT buy them for me. That's an awesome deal

I bought the magic bands. They're alright because you don't have to dig out your ticket when going through lines and at the gate. But ours were always screwed up. They were supposed to all be synced to each other so I could get fast passes for the whole family with just mine but sometimes it worked, sometimes I had to use my kid's or my wife's. There was no rhyme or reason to it.

Mardi Gras is the best time to go. also, there is a button on the back if the fast pass box that will spit out unlimited fast passes. haven't been since 09 but when I did go that was my trick
Posted on 7/31/14 at 10:38 pm to ell_13
Yep. The only issue is the military sponsor can only purchase six tickets.

Yeah. He deserved to be fired.

Wife said we need a year and a half to plan
If I'm going on a trip that takes a year and a half to plan it certainly is NOT gonna be freaking Disney.
Just does not sound like an enjoyable trip.

It doesn't take a year and half. I did it on two weeks notice. Granted I've been like ten times so I kinda got it down.

Pick your dates
Pick you hotel
Pick your ticket type
Pick your parks for each day
Make dining reservations
Make Fast Pass reservations
Go
1) Don't go whenever schools out
2) Buy & Read the Current Unofficial Guide
3) Bring a lot of money
4) Do sleep in a day or two
5) Follow a touring plan to avoid lines
6) Do have a mid-week no park day
7) Do watch Off Kilter in Canada Pavilion at Epcot while drinking around the world. Then catch the fireworks while buzzed.
8) Don't stay in a Value Resort.
9) Research Overlooked Attractions. Will make a world of difference
10) Don't expect a relaxing vacation. So have a recovery day at home when done.
11) Make the effort to not eat a single burger or chicken nugget. There're lots of better choices.
12) Take mid-day breaks. Pool, nap and chill before hitting the evening parks.
13) If a line is too long, keep moving.
14) Your resort will have some damn good entertainment. Be sure you find out what's going on there.
15) Tip your mousekeepers. $4-$5 per day before you head out.

But seriously, I've been to Napa, Paris, London, the Bahamas, the Amalfi Coast... and I still love Disney. Amalfi was our favorite, but just because I've been to some great places and had some unique experiences doesn't mean I can't have just as much fun at Disney. Honestly, for some time now, most of my enjoyment has come out of others experiencing it for the first time and letting them do things they want. I'll never forget my nephew's reaction when he met the "real life" Buzz.

I've been to Disneyworld twice when I was a kid. Barely remember it.
I'm sure if I have a kid I'll take them once...but def when they are at least 5 or so and can remember all of it and walk on their own.
That just sounds like the most miserable trip ever to take a toddler or baby there.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is overrated BTW.

ETA: GT, I knew about that, too. Short and less "thrill" than thunder mountain railroad.

I would spend the money you're going to waste on a Disney trip on a divorce lawyer.
Posted on 7/31/14 at 10:50 pm to ell_13
I've taken mine 3 times. Once when they were 2 and 4 which was miserable. Once when they were 4 and 6 which was one the best times I've ever had as a dad. And this most recent one now that their 6 and 8. This time was the easiest but you can already tell they don't think it's as "magical" anymore. They just want to ride the fast rides.

Time to start throwing in some Universal.

Definitely doing that next year for a day or two. We're going for a full week next year and staying on site. Should be a lot better. I hate staying off site.
