It’s really just a light hearted way to comment on someone telling you about something that Is maybe considered a luxury . I hear it all the time. Was telling my friend recently about a Browning Sporting 725 Citori I bought for my son to use for his shotgun team and his comment was “uh huh...can’t hide money.” We both laughed because it’s nowhere near a really high dollar gun. It’s really just conversation filler.

I once worked with a guy whose dad had passed and his Mom was about 70. She was close friends with a guy who was supposedly the richest man in Paducah, Ky. Her friends kept asking why she didn't marry him. She said, why would I marry him. I've got a comfortable home and enough money to be comfortable for the rest of my days. If I married him, he has no air conditioning and rooms are lit with a single bulb on a cord hanging from the ceiling. He was till living in a house that was modern a hundred years ago.

I'm doing such a good job of hiding it, I have myself convinced I'm nearly broke. It's why I cry in the bathroom by myself at night.
