Milk Thistle is helpful for the liver but that is not how it works. It does not cause a release of "toxins." The liver's job is to metabolize toxins and by-products for excretion in the stool.

Now for a colon clean you can get an enema, colonic, or drink the go lyte formula that's used prior to a colonoscopy. I had one done last year, you may as well stay on the toilet seat if you drink it

You don't need a colon "cleanse." There is no Spackle or paste sticking to the walls of your intestine like mentioned in that stupid commercial. The only time you need to evacuate the bowel is for a medical procedure or severe constipation, which has nothing to do with the images the hucksters are trying to create in people's minds.

Not reading that OP but talking with a pharmacist friend the other day (granted I was drinking) and what I gathered is that all the detoxing of Thebes's liver and kidneys and colon and whatever and the frick they selling, is pretty much just bullshite for be most part,

Enemas can be used for patients who for instance may be placed in a neuro rehab clinic

My father underwent a mission at a fairly young age to completely destroy his liver before he was an old man. He was pretty successful along the way. He ended up with liver issues late in life that caused some problems for him.

He decided to fix it by going to the drug store and buying a product called "Liverite". Lo and behold... all of his issues went away and his liver enzymes came down. It seemed to work for him and he had identifiable issues he could point to. Also, I'm pretty sure I never saw my father drink a glass of water, much less "more water".

I've read speculation that intermittent fasting may help to keep the liver functional and 'healthy' (along with other internal organs). Anyone know if this is accurate or just hopeful speculation?

Start that thread and watch it explode into a 5-pager with the quickness. Nothing gets the OT workout baws excited like an intermittent fasting thread.

And don't get caught up on the semantics of my OP. I know the liver is the detoxer itself--I am just curious if anything can aid it? And I hate how these discussions so quickly turn the medical community against the holistic one. I get that a lot of you are invested in one or the other, especially those in the med field. You've invested money, time, your life's work--I get it. But to just totally dismiss anything herbal as snake oil or a scam doesn't add to the conversation. Neither do the yoga girl hippies yelling "Big Pharma," "They're in the business of keeping you sick! A healthy patient is 1 less patient!"

Surely there's a happy medium, and that while Western medicine should be the standard, certain Eastern philosophies or remedies may have supplemental merit.

Weird, I was just going off of what several very experienced doctors told me while in rehab for alcoholism. If it helps your liver post drinking, they prescribe it to you. You would prob know more than a profession in a setting like that though. I'll go load up some milk thistle

I don't think his liver works very well if that's what's happening to it

I mentioned that Milk Thistle's benefits have real research in the medical community to back it up. But, it doesn't force toxins out not the liver as some suggest. There are no toxins in the liver, just the damage left behind by things like alcohol and certain meds.
