Hmmm...

This would be a unit I'd turn off and on as we use it. Quiet would be nice but the old window unit cools the room off fast. I wonder if I should go back with what I have due to how it's used...

However if I install a split and we sell the house the next people could easily use it as an apartment with the separate water supply and sewer.

Mini Split = Does the job. Much quieter whisper quiet; Uses less electricity

Window Unit = LOUD. cools área quicker. will freeze your balls off in a hurry
more electricity. bugs and shite tend to collect in the unit. Not
made like they use to. ( 80's & 90's). Did I mention LOUD?

Pick your poison

My advice: If you choose a mini split get a bigger unit than you think you'll need

If you know an AC guy get them to cut the factory connectors off and just solder it and be done when they do the vacuum etc. They leak.

Other than that we love ours. It dumps cold air on my side of the bed all night and it’s glorious.

and much more expensive upfront and when needing maintaince. Widow shaker breaks, you throw another one in there and rock on.

The new inverter window units are quiet and efficient.
