The fast pass is all moving to the my Disney experience coupled with the magic bands... The magic band will replace your key/park entrance along with photo passes and paper fast passes.. You will be able to book 3 fast passes per day well in advance.. I got an email about scheduling mine the other day, we are going the week of Mardi gras..

I went a few months ago and tested out the magic bands. I'm not sure if/when they are going to be mandatory, but if you ca get them, you should. Those coupled with the MyDisney app made the trip very easy to manage.
All of the reservations and fast passes can be managed from the app on your phone.

They WILL be if you stay on property. We used the bands in October with no problem at all. Tonight's the first night of our current trip and we came across our first problem. When we got back to the resort, none of the bands worked to unlock the door. After going to the front desk and getting a maintenance worker to come and check it out, they determined that the batteries in the band reader had died. Seriously. That seems like something they should be actively working to prevent.
