I’ve never grasped the appeal of Lakeview.

I guess Lakeview per se is pretty boring, but as you get closer to the Gentilly Terrace and Lake Vista areas there's a lot of appeal. As a kid it was a really excellent area to explore on a bike. Even as an adult, you can get pretty close to Bayou St. John and the Fairgrounds. You can golf, play around in a kayak or whatever, etc.

That said, I'm not backing away from my original point that I don't see the point (for most people) of living in Orleans Parish. The calculus just doesn't work.

Has it ever been that great? You obviously want to preserve the buildings for historical value and the clubs draw in tourists but if you take away that there’s not much to it.

Could it be that as you reside there full time and have no other perspective, it’s as bad as the OP suggested but you fail to recognize it because you have become accustomed to it?

I have no dog in this hunt, so I’m not taking sides. But I find it odd that some of you who claim to be natives and residents seem unable to even agree that things are pretty bad there.

I’m wondering if it’s because you really don’t see what visitors see, or you just choose to defend your hometown blindly.
are you talking about New Orleans as a whole or just the FQ?
