You don't need high stack if you are young and injury free, but they work great if you have issues with foot pain or tendonitis. I can pretty much only run in a max cushion shoe now. My achilles can't handle the plated shoes, but I don't run fast enough to worry about those anyway.

Most of the "comfort" brand shoes are uncomfortable as hell for people with big feet.

Look into Altra brand. Most of their styles have the “boxy” toe box and are very comfortable for long stretches. I switched to them as my trail shoe and haven’t looked back.

They also make regular walking/running shoes with the larger toe box. I’ve known a couple of people who suffered from plantar fasciitis that swear by these shoes.

Gen X here and I have several pairs of Hoka's. I call them my orthopedic sneakers. As I have gotten older I realize I need to take better care of my feet so these were a no brainer for me.

I bought a pair of Altra Torin and they were absolutely incredible feeling. Unfortunately, the material in the inside heel part of the shoe wore out for me in like two weeks.

Bought the wife a pair of Bondi's. I thought they were overpriced and kind of silly but she uses them every day. So it worked out.
