That's the thing with so many of the serial killers. Look at Ted Bundy. He looked like the "Boy Next Door", not some twisted, demented serial killer who maimed his victims and would sometimes revisit the murder scene to have sex with the corpses.
I watched a lot of specials about Bundy and the thing that really was off-putting for me was how he often described his actions in 3rd person, like it wasn't really him.
Look at pictures of Gary Ridgeway, John Wayne Gacy, Jeffrey Dahmer------none of those guys looked particularly dangerous or even imposing, but they racked up over 100 murders between them.
