Louisiana will spend $8 million to build a new Delta Community College campus in Ruston that will anchor a technology park there, Gov. John Bel Edwards will announce Tuesday.
Edwards will join Mayor Ronny Walker, Louisiana Community and Technical College System President Monty Sullivan, Delta Chancellor Dennis Epps and Louisiana Tech University President Les Guice at the Ruston Historic Fire Station to make it official.
"The governor is very excited about making this announcement for a project that will not only strengthen work force development but also act as a catalyst for new high-tech industry and jobs in Ruston and the region," said Shauna Sanford, Edwards' communications director.
Walker approached the state about the project with a commitment that the city will spend $7 million to build a road leading to the campus and park as well as the infrastructure to support it.
Ruston will also construct a building to house high-tech robotics and manufacturing firms in its own Center of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies.
Good for Ruston but I’m scratching my head on why this is needed. Students can’t drive 30 min?

Louisiana Tech is the beneficiary of all of the infrastructure though....and they cut remedial classes to boost academic numbers.
The mayor in Ruston is a machine and gets work done.
I don’t get it at all but it does not surprise me that this landed in Ruston.
