Plant bamboo in between tree and house. It will keep roots from getting to house.

They are beautiful trees, but definitely a pain the arse in winter. You rake up cypress needles one day only to find a fresh layer coating the entire front yard the next. After a couple of days you can't even see the yard or the driveway under the tree.

I can deal with that, it is the fear of what those cypress knees are doing underground that has me ready to get rid of it.

Bump- I have the same issue in BR. Big cypress that I want removed. Did anyone have success getting someone to pay you to take it out, or at least take it out in exchange for keeping the wood?

We have the same situation in Ponchatoula - Acadiana Cypress was not interested.

I've called quite a few places in NOLA area and found that most say a single tree isn't worth their time as far as you getting paid to remove the tree.

Best price I've found so far for removal was $2200 for the tree and $500 to grind the stump. Prices include removing all from site. I'll be taking it down in the next 3-4 months.

Carve Robert E. Lee's face into it, the city will remove it free.

That's a great idea actually. If the city doesn't remove it then surely some SJW's would.

Bayou Tree Services is a great company and the owner, John Benton, is honest and very hands-on with his company. Give him a call he will point you in the right direction. They specialize in removal and preservation. I used to landscape in Nola and dealt with them many times.

The knees are easy to remove with a shovel and a saw or axe. I made my back yard knee-free. Unfortunately when I sold the house the new owners chopped it down immediately. I hate to see a mature cypress tree go.
