The watches he is talking about street for about the same price as an Apple Watch S10. I am not saying someone has never been robbed of a Seiko 5, but unless you live in South Sudan, I doubt many people consider them a "fancy watch." IMO they are a watch perfectly suited for a HS student that wants a mechanical watch and doesn't lose or destroy personal property on a regular basis.

I just happened to see this posted on the Affordable subforum on WUS an obvious "homage" to the GS SBGJ277G:

Sapphire crystal and bezel along with a Seiko NH34 GMT movement almost identical to what you find in OP's Seiko. $210 with shipping using the code FLASH_SALE for 12% off. It will take a couple of weeks to get here from China but the specs are actually better than the Seiko 5, loads cheaper and you do have to go through the trouble of modding. It does have a MOP dial but the guy that bought one said it is very subtle.

This isn’t a GMT, but it’s a piece from Citizen’s “Fugu” line. I have several in different colorways, and they are excellent watches especially for the price. Hacking auto, sapphire, solid end links, good bezel action. The clasps are stamped but of good quality. Looks like it also comes with a Citizen green rubber strap, which is nice. I can’t recommend enough.
