No. There is no definition that would qualify a virus as a living thing

*Viruses do not have a cellular structure (which is the basic unit of life)
*Viruses cannot replicate on their own
*Viruses do not have their own metabolism
*Viruses, unlike recognized life forms, do not use cell division to reproduce

Viruses are parasites. They use their hosts to replicate. They are definitely alive.

It's not debunked. It's possible but highly improbable. Still a good idea to take stuff out of the packaging before bringing it into your house and then washing your hands afterwards.
