She was a teacher in Juarez. He went to visit her and probably ex boyfriend/drug cartel took them out or they were in drug game. She was teaching in Juarez though.

When I was in 7th grade, we lived in El Paso while my Dad was doing another tour of Vietnam.
My mom would drive me to Juarez to get a cheap haircut. The barbershop was huge, and there was no danger. We'd then have a cheap, nice steak for lunch (in those days, you ate steaks in Juarez but Tex-Mex in El Paso).
The current state of affairs in Mexico is shameful.
