It's disgusting.

Where to start as I am not sure where you are coming from but here goes.
False. An attorney has a fiduciary duty to their client regardless of who is paying them.
The attorney for Bunn did not blame the victim. If anyone, he blamed the attorney for the family that is keeping this case alive after it went through several different levels of scrutiny.
So my anecdotal experiences of working rape cases is indicative of how all of law enforcement operates? I was a good investigator, but I would hardly say I could speak for how all of the law enforcement community operates.
Then I suppose Terry Bunn is so well connected that he can buy his way out of rape arrest, but not a DUI arrest in Tuscaloosa.
Oops.

Name: TERRY BUNN
Arrest Date: 2/26/2016
Charges:
Agency Bond Type Bond Amount Count Charge
TPD BONDSMAN/SECURED $1,000.00 1 D.U.I. (ALCOHOL)
ETA: Mr. Bunn's arrest date happens to coincide with another event that is possibly relevant to this case or lack thereof. Time will tell.

The fact that his statement places all blame on the victim tells exactly who he is.

How exactly does this work? Listen here girl, you file a civil suit and are going to charge you with felony filing of a civil suit.

When it comes to rape, rape cases, and rape cases being tossed under the rug at the University of Alabama, there are only varying shades of gray.

The Fed might have something to say about it.

Well, there is this last line from the link I posted.
Updated at 12:12 pm to correct that UA was not named as a defendant in lawsuit

That happened

The Rondinis learned the criminal case was back on the table only after they hired an attorney for a potential civil suit. Once they heard Megan might face felony charges, they decided it was best for Megan to drop the civil case, withdraw early from school, and go home to Texas.

I was working on the premise that the client pays their attorney. Are you considering he is paid by a Gofundme or his company?

Well yeah, he kind of did when he said "But accusing law enforcement and those who counseled this young woman for her actions is misguided." Every problem she had is due to her actions? Did the rape contribute?

So there are no standard protocols? Is it anybody's standard protocol to interview a sexual assault victim in the lobby of the precinct? Is it standard protocol to threaten the victim with arrest for trying to protect herself as she flees her attacker?

Welp, this is interesting.
quote:
Tuscaloosa Sheriff Ron Abernathy directed his criminal investigators to “script” Megan Rondini’s rape case. In law enforcement jargon, Abernathy’s order to “script” the case meant that investigators Adam Jones and Josh Hastings should only do bare minimum work on this case and nothing more.
This is how and why Megan’s allegations of rape against T.J. “Sweet T” Bunn, Jr., got downgraded from a full blown rape investigation to a mere “special inquiry” report that was parked in the Department’s files.
Jones and Hastings are experienced criminal investigators. Yet, they failed to: (a) send Megan Rondini’s rape kit and urine sample to a forensic lab for testing; (b) take extensive interview notes on the details of Megan’s rape allegations; (c) interview Megan’s friends who were with her at Innisfree Irish Pub; (d) question Sweet T in detail about his interaction with Megan, from the time they saw each other at the Pub to the time she left his house; (e) investigate Sweet T for personal drug use, or his possible drugging of Megan on the night in question; (f) investigate Sweet for prior sexual assault allegations lodged and reported by other women; and (g) follow a litany of established protocols for fully and properly investigating allegations of rape.
quote:
Megan was unaware that her case was the second time Ron Abernathy had interceded on Sweet T’s behalf in an alleged sexual assault case. The first instance occurred around 2009 or 2010 after Sweet T was named as a suspect in an alleged sexual assault that happened at his camp house on Fosters Loop Road in Tuscaloosa County. Abernathy, who was then the chief deputy sheriff, advised Sheriff Edmund “Ted” Sexton against taking criminal action in the case because it would “stir things up” with Terry Jackson Bunn, Sr., who is Sweet T’s well-known, politically connected, and wealthy father.
Sheriff Sexton politely ignored Abernathy’s unsolicited advice and referred the sexual assault case to the Alabama Bureau of Investigation for an appropriate criminal investigation. The disposition of this case is unknown.

Abernathy’s wife Leslie is the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at the University. Her job at UA is to keep corporate donors like the Bunn family businesses happy and to bring home the big corporate dollars.
In Tuscaloosa, Campaign Money Talks
According to campaign finance reports, Abernathy raised $135,195 in campaign contributions, including $4,000 from Pride PAC II on October 6, 2014 and $4,200 from T-Town PAC II on October 24, 2014.
Campaign finance records show that ST Bunn Construction Company contributed $5,000 to Pride PAC II on November 11, 2013 and another $5,000 on October 24, 2014. The company contributed $5,000 to T-Town PAC II on November 11, 2013, $5,000 on July 21, 2014, and $5,000 on October 24, 2014.

And yet he was arrested for DUI within a calendar year of the scripted investigation. As far as what was not done during the investigation, a suspect cannot be forced to do most of what you listed. Other acts in Bunn's past would not be admissible. So...

As interesting as all this is, do you really think any of the national television media will ever pick up on this......thay is a big fat no. Especially if UA tie-in gets hotter!!
ETA: Ain't no 30 for 30 being made on this no matter how revelation.

You know there's a difference between crimes an LEO witnesses "on sight" and those reported for investigation. In Tuscaloosa, the cameras and mics roll when the lights come on and the officer has no ability to turn then off (he can turn off the body cam but not the one in his cruiser). Once he pulled that car over his discretion was over unless he and someone at headquarters wanted to start tampering with evidence and obstructing justice.
Plus, DUI is a misdemeanor. You can pay the fine and go about your life, especially if you're rich enough to hire your own driver.
As for the grand jury - I posted before that my mother-in-law was on a Tuscaloosa gj several yeats ago....the DA told them what to decide. Unbelievable.
