It's been a few years since I got caught up on motor oil. I met a Tribologist that helped me a lot. In more recent years my son went to work for Shell. He is an engineer. He got really interested in engine oil and took it to another level. He gets into some pretty deep details.

A lot of re-refined base stocks are exceptionally high quality and are extremely prevalent in the US market. Just because the product isn’t mentioned as “green” doesn’t mean it isn’t using re-refined base oil. Chevron, Shell, P66, Valvoline, Warren and virtually every other manufacturer purchase re-refined base stocks, especially for syn-blend products.
