Complete Blindside firing is terrible and should never happen and is a sign of bad leadership. I try to provide consistent feedback; there should never be a doubt regarding an employee's standing. Every person that I have had to fire knew it was going to happen. What Vaynerchuk is saying, is that, if a person is not working out, provide feedback, help them improve, and if that does not work, make the decision quickly. In essence, do not allow your ego to delay what needs to be done. Be fair and respectful. Also, toxic employees are worse than poor performers. Three of the four people that I fired directly had a toxic element to them. I also inherited three of the four people that I fired.

I agree. I haven't seen it in practice in my years with this company, though I can't speak for all of the offices, so it could just be local leadership. We have a PIP protocol in place, but I've never seen it used. I dont' know if it's a desire to avoid confrontation or just not be inconvenienced by it. Either way, it doesn't help the company or the employees.

I agree about toxic vs poor performance. There's at least some hope for the poor performer.

As a female in management I was always stuck with the task of dealing with female coworkers wearing inappropriate clothing to work, or female “health issues”
