Looking for the same thing. I need a patio done, and I can't find anyone to come out and give me a reasonable quote.

I have a 10' x 30' patio that a guy wants me to pay him $1,000 to pour and finish, plus the cost of concrete. I am leaning towards pouring it myself and finishing it myself.

Have you ever pulled concrete with a concrete come along or finished concrete after placement?

1000 plus concrete cost seems excessive
or industry norm?

As an owner of a design-build concrete contracting firm, $1000 is really not too far off from being a decent deal on getting your patio placed and finished. For the parking removal and replacement project, just make sure your contractor knows the proper placement of expansion joints and control joints otherwise you may have to replace it in another 5 years...or sooner.

That's only $3.33/ SF for that small of a slab. I think that's a good number, especially if he hasn't ever done the work before. The 300 SF slab at 4" of depth is going to hold 4 CY of concrete. Once the charge of a short load is paid, they cost of the concrete is going to be $600-700. I wouldn't risk buying that much concrete that could go bad in a heartbeat if I wasn't experienced to place and finish it. Not to mention the cost of the Georgia buggy and the amount of work involved. Concrete work sucks. There is a reason not many Americans do this task anymore.

Would Joe mess with a small job like mine?

Good for you. That is a bit high for less than 4 cyds of concrete.
His costs should be around
$80 per yard for 3000psi. $300 approx
$120 per hour for line pump and $120 trip time- $240 total
Form boards,etc- $100
Total material and pump -$640
If he is a decent volume buyer of mud he will have the under 5 yard delivery fee waived by his supplier. Same for the minimum 4 hour pump fee with his pump company. But if he is some low volume guy....add $200 to the $640.
He will have 2 laborers earning about $15 an hour. Job like that will only take about 3 hours to form, place and broom finish. He will have about $100 in labor cost. That leaves $900 to him for profit minus overhead like insurance, depreciation, etc. which is a small number when broken out per job average.
A fair price for you for that tiny job would be about $600.
Expect to pay a non-account COD book price for your mud if you do it yourself. About $40 more per yard. Your mud price will be about $120 more than his. You can rent a bull float, trowel and broom for pretty cheap for a day...say $50. Pump will run you about $350 with the 4 hour minimum fee. You and two buddies can easily knock that out in a couple hours. Do it yourself for about $900 total.
Or....pay him at minimum $1640. Good luck

Sorry if I mis-understood. If that $1000 includes the price of the concrete and the means to place it(pump, buggy) then heck yes do that. I thought you meant $1000 and then concrete costs in addition.

One of my crews does parking lot maintenance for a number of local retail center owners in town as well as commercial realestate companies and national retailers. We do a lot of dollar generals, grocery stores etc. They are used to working after hours if needed. Happy to send a guy to provide you a bid to do the work.
