Insurance companies do ask for that from time to time. While it doesn't happen all the time, it does happen. Especially in the type of work/insurance markets that you're in. Don't take it personally.
I guarantee you that the requirement was on the quote that your broker received from the insurance company and he figured that they'd never really ask for it.
