Have a parent meeting.

Tell them all this, then ask em whi wants the clipboard

Then delegate EVERYTHING nur the coaching to the parents. Do this immediately and all noise stops

I have coached youth sports for many years also. I enjoy the time with my kids and the other kids on the team. I despise dealing with the parents.

I have 2 rules in regards to the parents whining:
1. Don't complain about position
2. Don't complain about playing time

I have told multiple parents they are more capable of volunteering to coach if they aren't happy, and not a single one has ever taken up the offer.

Read Mike Matheny's book. Its a great read.

Parents are the worst. I've seen coaches get in brawls in peewee and a royal rumble brawl in a flag football game. It's sad watching little kids cry while 30+ parents beat the living hell out of each other.

now you are patronizing me...I have very good practices and I went out and found guys that I work well with who have experience at the HS, College, or Semi Pro level to coach specific position groups...we break up into OLINE/Backfield/DB's/DLINE and LB's...every practice and work on targeted skills and footwork, etc. for each one...I know what I'm doing and don't have to win every game...just don't like assholes who haven't coached a snap trying to tell me my business...that was what this rant was about.

My apologies...Not my intenet to patronize you. And I don't understand why parents would bitch if your staff is made up of very experienced men who have played multiple levels of Football. If anything, the parents should be happy and understand that practice is where you actually learn....and the amount of experience you and your staff have is far better for their kids than playing for some schmuck who is a coach, only because they are on the board.
As a poster has already mentioned....read "The Metheny Manifesto". A Great read.

I don't know how youth coaches do it.

I really feel sorry for the coaches 15-20 years from now. They'll be constantly fighting off lawsuits over playing time.
