Piggly Wiggly had a store on Florida at Donmoor in Baton Rouge that the local shoplifters stole blind. When PW announced they were closing the store because it was actually losing money, the local "spokespeople" were up in arms and felt the store should not close because they employed people from the area, and they "owed it to the community" to stay open. The store closed.
