No. Can buy a $3700 Grand Seiko with a Spring Drive movement. It's a quartz regulated, automatic mechanical movement that is as accurate as quality pure quartz watches. Some models are completely sealed with a vacuum environment for the gear train which could mean decades without service.

I'll never buy another watch that has a battery unless it is a disposable. They fail and leak acid, ruining the watch, whether it is a quartz or a hybrid.

That's unfortunate, especially on a watch that expensive.
I'd assume that's covered under warranty though.

I've never had that happen and I've got watches that have had their factory batteries in them 15 - 30+ years. Only watch I've had a "battery" problem on was an early Seiko Kinetic that wouldn't hold a charge due to the mov't consuming too much power for the capacitor to keep up with.
