This is a well-known phenomenon, most commonly displayed when you read online reviews of products. People trick themselves into thinking they made the right choice even if they didn't. The thing they just bought is the greatest one.
This also applies to CV hoarding and quarantine. People will push for further quarantine and lockdown simply to support their choices to hoard things and justify their initial fears and uncertainties, even as numbers will become apparent that none of it is necessary.

I think this is an overreaction. At least in some places. No reason for rural NY 300 miles away from NYC to be on lockdown.
But I’ve stocked up on food, TP, and booze. But I would much rather a cure be found tomorrow than need my stockpile.
So I don’t think this applies to me or most people whose brains actually function.
