Almost 1000 people shot in a "gun free" city.
This gets repeated all the time, and it's not true.

If you live in the city of Chicago, you can own firearms. However, you have to meet certain conditions:
You must be 21 years old or older
You must possess a firearm owner’s identification card (FOID)
You must have a concealed carry license if you intend to remove your gun from your home
Beyond this, people don't understand that Indiana, literally a short ride east on I-80 from Chicago, with some of the laxest gun purchase laws in the United States, is where the gangs in Chicago get a very large portion of their guns and ammo.
Needless to say, it's quite a lucrative 'business' opportunity for someone to buy guns in IN, drive 30 minutes, and flip them for huge profits to gang members who can't legally buy or possess in Chicago.

the cop told him to drop the gun, and the kid apparently obliged, right?
When a cop says drop the gun, I don’t think they mean to completely obscure the fact that you’re dropping it and the turning around 8 milliseconds later.
Kinda defeats the whole purpose of dropping the gun if it’s not visible and apparent that you’re dropping it.

Yeah, i just saw the streamable link with the security camera angle. Came back to apologize, I see now that he wasn't as unarmed as I had initially believed. The kid didn't know any better, but pulling the gun out of his pocket put the cop in an unwinnable situation, he had to shoot. I feel sorry for the kid and pissed at the thug who pawned the gun off on him.

Again, I spoke too soon. In the words of Coach O, "put this one on me"

Well you are lying saying he did what the cop told him to do. So there is that
You have a single still frame with a gun as a cop is chasing him down the fricking street. I’m not arguing the cop wasn’t rightfully scared, but this idea he saw the gun as the kid turned to follow his directions is hysterical. The kid is dead. The cop seemed genuinely remorseful. The cop was probably scared for his life.
All of that can be true while still admitinf the instructions were a death sentence in that situation regardless.

The cop said stop and drop the gun. If he does that he is alive
THE COP NEVER SAID TURN AND FACE ME WITH THE GUN.

Wait is everyone saying that the cop didn’t see him drop the gun or the guy turned with the gun? I’m legitimately lost on this one now
I can’t find the video in this mess of a thread

The cop didn't see him drop the gun - we can't see him drop it on the bodycam.
As the kid turned, he dropped the gun. My guess is the police officer saw the gun in the hand before the kid turned, the kid turns, dropped the gun behind the fence as he is turning (not known to the cop), and raises his hands up (cop thinking he is raising his hands with his hand on the gun). A tough spot for the cop to be in.

Yeah I got it, I was mixing up the camera angles in my head and wasn’t sure which one showed what first

Bottom line is you can’t freaking turn around there. Which is why the cop didn’t say “turn around”

No the frick he didn’t.
In the 6 seconds before he was shot the cop said...
“Unaudible, STOP!”
“STOP right fricking now”
Kid stops.
“Hey, show me your fricking hands” and the kid then turns around as he’s raising his hands.
“Drop” gunfire.
That’s it. That’s the video.
I’m not remotely suggesting holding a gun in a police chase is a good idea. All I’m saying is the directions we’re going to get him killed. Period.

I have not read this thread, but frick the Chicago mayor who cares about nothing other than this case. 50 people shot in a weekend is nothing but someone shot by the police is news

So, once again you are absolutely lying , he didn’t follow the cops orders. Turning around, especially turning around holding the gun wasn’t in the orders
Following the orders would have him still alive

frick the mayor for not pointing out that this kid had a gun
Seems like an important point

The kid has stopped with his back to the cop. The cop is slowing down. He hollers:
“Show me your fricking hands.”
The majority of people are turning around to show you their hands, yet pride thinks the instructions were perfectly clear.

At least you are finally admitting you were lying when you said he followed the cops orders

You left out the part about taking the gun out of your pocket and trying to be slick and dump it behind a fence to get out of the crime you just committed
Cop saw the butt of the gun and his quick turn
It wasn’t as slick of a move as the kid thought

As a non moron, I realize that turning around with a gun in my hand would likely get me killed.
This kid obviously didn't realize that but that isnt the cop's fault.
