Is it irresponsible for the mayor to release this video with no explanation? Not pointing out the gun or previous crime?

More than milliseconds. He's digging for it the last 10-12 feet or so of his flee as he passes the metal gate. Then when he gets it out, he tosses it behind the wooden fence as he turns to face the cop.
The cop sees him digging as the pursuit slows and has a split second to decide if the kid tosses it or raises it.
Sorry, but no-one on earth is taught to wait till you know it's raised at you before firing in self defense.

The second gif makes it look a worse but I still believe the cop shot too soon. I know we aren’t going to agree on that though so there’s not much of a point in going back and forth with you.

When are people gonna learn its never a good idea to run from a cop? These cops arent well trained, make shite money, and constantly deal with the lowest of society. They aint perfect. Resisting just increases odds of cops fricking up

Well, it appears in this case that the cop told the kid to a) drop the gun, and b) put his hands up...which according to the video he did. I think if the perp is doing what you told them to that does not mean you then shoot them.
Others may be able to confirm, but I think that a criminal holding a gun does not by itself give you the ok to shoot them. If they start to raise it toward you, or shoot at you, of course.

I’ll admit I jumped the gun too quickly on that. I can understand that it’s a very difficult decision to make in real time and still think the cop shot him too early
