I know this is not the main issue at hand, but the above is an overwhelmingly sad statement.
Completely agree.

I only read a couple of pages, but I think this guy's issue is that he just cares too much.

Tell him he's regurgitating Gordon Wood then ask him if he likes apples.

What does the op's occupation? He says he went to grad school?

Sounds like you're in this relationship for the wrong reasons (i.e. you decided one day to cut off other girls and give just one a try). A relationship should lift you up, not bring you down. You say you're miserable and felt less stressed out when you were single. So why are you still in this relationship? You are not doing yourself or her any favors by dragging this out. Get out while the relationship is still new and you aren't leading this poor girl on. Lastly, instead of spending your single life on dating as you did before, this time focus on improving yourself and finding your own friends and hobbies. It sounds like you have your work cut out for you. The right person will come around when you stop trying to force it.
ETA: your problem with this other guy is just a symptom in a line of symptoms you have described in this thread that all relate to your general insecurity and focus on all of the wrong things.

He said he had an MBA. Not sure why he can't compete with a teacher.

Boom. Brilliant. Wish I thought of this.

This is solid advice.
What's your major dude?
Oh, I bet you read a lot of Gordon Wood, huh? You read your Gordon Wood and then regurgitate it from a textbook and you think you're wicked awesome doing that.
And how 'bout them apples and all that Gordon Wood business?

He shouldn't have to be competing with anything.
They've been exclusive for TWO fricking weeks. If it's this stressful already then he needs to just GTFO of it now.

I haven't read the whole of this thread but one thing you can do to easily mark your territory is give her a proper kiss right in front of his face.
I've seen people(including my gf to me) do it when they see their other half talking to someone they don't trust as a reminder of "this is mine and don't you forget it" sort of stance
Personally I usually have great sex after these moments so don't care about her petty insecurity of my friendship with certain people as I trust myself.

OP sounds like he just has no identity.
I hang around insufferable and elitist douches constantly, and I can't compete in a lot of ways. But, I'm also not interested in designer jeans and cardigans and hip new tapas restaurants, so not being a master of those areas works out fine. When the discussion goes to foreign policy or outdoors or history I get to run the show, and it works fine.
Now sometimes you do find the guy who shoots in the 70s his first time playing golf, woos every woman and knows everything about anything, and the answer is to just be buds with that guy.

Nothing to add except
Is hitting them out of the park.
Good luck. Update us. If it stresses you out this much might be time to let it go. No GF I ever dated was worth all this crap this early on

These threads always deliver. The advice/responses the OP gets is usually never what he/she expected

Sounds to me like the OP has poor social skills and is just having a hard time adjusting to a new social scene. The GF finds the professor moreinteresting.

Absolutely this. The dude dates hot women and keeps a stable. Be his friend, and when you and your GF break up, go out with him and nail something else.

I've actually been trying to help the OP since before 5am.
