Universities increasing tuition is rational. If universities saw enrollment drop when they increase tuition, they wouldn't be so quick to do it.

Sort of true.

The problem is already too much government intervention. The government will give anyone a student loan no matter what. Sound familiar? (mortgage crisis) This drives tuition up.

If private banks had to back the loans maybe they would look into who is borrowing the money and ask important questions...

Are you getting an art degree for $200,000? No way you will ever pay that back. No loan for you

That’s the root of the problem

This doesn't cancel any debt. This transfers responsibility from the person who agreed to the loan to others who did not agree to the loan.

Easy to say these things when you'll never be in the position to do it.

i guaran-damned-tee i'd be in that 5% (although, we'd all be fricked much harder than that if Warren were president--God have mercy on our souls).

oh weird. college isn't a free market system since the feds got involved so why you out here supporting them gouging students? explain it dude. you're a walking arse contradiction

One of the biggest reasons students are getting gouged on college tuition costs is because the federal govt handed out lots of money to anyone. We can also discuss universities becoming pretty much luxury resorts and passing costs on to students. The university where I work just finished building a $106M recreation center. Plenty of other new construction and rennovations as well.

Colleges and universities saw an opportunity to cash in.

And here we are.

I feel like I don’t have to voice any other opinion in this thread as it’s been covered ad nauseam. But frick socialists like Warren and the rest of the Democrats.

And what about us parents who paid our kids tuition even though it was costly for us?

If I knew this would happen I woulda had her take out a student loan

Who are the 5% that wouldn’t be included? High earners?

Seems unfair to the students who worked hard and paid off their loans.

Seems more unfair to the students who still have the debt, but actually got meaningful degrees and make "too much" to qualify. That plan is a fricking joke

LSU spent 85 million on recreational facilities a few years ago, complete with a lazy river
