Eventually? But running on little to no sleep for days in end is not fun.

Yes. Easily. I'm old.
Staying asleep is an entirely different matter.

This time of year I get up at 5:30. I’ll take a quick nap around lunch for 20-30 minutes. Then bed at 10. I will generally fall asleep in 10 minutes.
Tonight I was out at 9:30. But wide awake now due to 8 teenage boys showed up at house to eat everything in it. They are loud as shite. We like em here but damn was I sound asleep.

I think my sage advice worked and OP passed out within 10 minutes as promised. I should write a book or start a YouTube channel.

I can sleep anytime anywhere. If I could bottle my sleeping ability I would be a true OT baller.
Oh and you can wake me up and I can fall right back to sleep.

Daily dose of magnesium and L-teianine...and sometimes alcohol.

I just took a muscle relaxer. I woke up this morning with a pulled muscle in my upper back area. It eased up during the day but now that I'm trying to sleep, I'm uncomfortable.
Half the days, I take a sleep aide.

Yea but only for a few hours at a time

I never had a problem sleeping before. I would basically pass out. But somehow I would wake up at 4:30 every morning to go to work. But when I first quit it was brutal… started taking Xanax but would be too woozy the next day. But now I go to sleep pretty easy without help.

I read a few pages of Toll’ s WW 2 book on the war in the Pacific and I can fall asleep instantly after about 15 pages, but I can only sleep for about 5 hours.
Anything more than that I will start having bad dreams.

Finally, you start the dreaming process by focusing on what appears in your mind's eye. You'll be surprised at the random shite you'll start seeing in your mind's eye when you close your eyes and just let your imagination run.
No problems falling asleep here. Coffee gives me a boost, but I can still sleep on it. This "mind's eye" thing is what caught my interest. I always thought it was a metaphor, but apparently it is a real thing, and I, alas, am in the 1-3% who have "aphantasia". While I can close my eyes and remember and reason about the appearance and physicality of things, I don't actually see them. It's just blackness, and I thought it was like that for everybody. I've been aware it isn't for a couple of years now, and I still can't quite bring myself to believe people can imagine a horse and see it with their eyes closed, as if they were seeing it for real.
What is aphantasia?

Yes.
I close my eyes and fall asleep. I am usually out within 3-5 minutes.
Drives the missus crazy.

Well you don't actually see the object.
Try this:
Try to see an apple. What color is the apple? Does it have a sticker on it? Is the stem removed?
YOU have to create the apple with your imagination.
You are basically saying you don't have an imagination. Me thinks you do...

I’ve taken 2 advil PM gel pills to sleep every night for about 15 years. Works for me.

That's what I always would have said, and it's why learning I have aphantasia was so unreal to me. You clearly didn't read the articles I linked. I can say that with certainty because you responded immediately, and you didn't address what they discuss.

No, I'm not. I was describing imagination when I said "While I can close my eyes and remember and reason about the appearance and physicality of things..."
