Hmmm so maybe some kind of level of physics we can comprehend yet.

Velocity is relative.

Wow it really changed trajectory!

Maybe. But They say it would be consistent with a solar sail made by intelligent life.

I think the message in a bottle theory is interesting. Let’s say some civilization sent these out all around the universe. They float around and move in strange ways when light hits them so that intelligent life would be able to recognize that.

Maybe there is some type of message in it that would tell us how to communicate

Correct but it is moving very slow relative to all other stars that could have ejected it.

I’m not saying it’s aliens, but it’s aliens baw

That’s just a big frozen space turd that got dropped out of an intergalactic airliner (they look like DC-8s)

Those are some big logical leaps being made there.

"This is mathematically very rare, therefore it shouldn't happen.. and aliens".

Can you explain the movement? Because people that do this for a living can’t

I never read where it was stationary and our solar system passed across it. I read that it came from above our solar system very quickly, looped around the sun then accelerated back out to space at a 90 degree angle. The thing that preplexed observers was that its acceleration wasn’t due to off-gassing like comets. Also, never understood why they talked about how reflective it was, but the artist rendering made it look like a freaking big brown rock...

Not aliens

Well, likely not aliens. Still an awesome object.

Too bad we don’t have the ability to go and retrieve it. How big is it?

We technically could get machinery to it next year large enough to perform scans, drill into it, take some samples, and send the data back.

We need to. This is far too interesting.
Plus it’s only a few football fields long

No, but physicists can't even explain or directly observe 80% of the matter in the known universe. We just know it's there because of how it distorts the 20% that we can observe.

It could be that we simply couldn't detect the natural phenomenon that boosted the object as it came around the sun, like we normally would with a comet's gas tail. The temperature change would be fairly significant coming around the Sun like that so who knows how the metal would react.

It doesn't really make sense for a space faring race to use these objects. It would likely be very crude compared to the technology available a civilization capable of putting something like that out there.

What’s sad is if this were a “message in a bottle” object, it’s creators assumed that if observed by a civilization, they would also have the capability to capture/explore the object. Unfortunately the civilization that would be in its relative area are too caught up in hurt feelings and cow farts and don’t have time nor capability/funding to explore an object that is not from our system.
