Here is a bit of a history on the ole Coffee Enema and their development.
quote:
Coffee enema history traces back to ancient practices of ritual purging, but the specific use of coffee for detoxification gained prominence in the 1930s with Dr. Max Gerson's therapy for cancer, claiming it stimulated liver detoxification (GST enzymes) and bile flow, though modern medicine finds no scientific proof and warns of risks like colitis, despite proponents reporting symptom relief.
Ancient Roots of Enemas:
Ancient Egypt (c. 1550 BCE): Enemas were vital for health, with specialized servants ("Guardian of the Anus") administering them to purge believed disease-causing elements from feces (whdw).
Emergence of Coffee Enemas:
Early 20th Century: Coffee enemas were used for various ailments, with claims of alleviating headaches, fatigue, and constipation.
Gerson Therapy (1930s): Dr. Max Gerson popularized coffee enemas as a core component, alongside a strict diet, to treat degenerative diseases like cancer by boosting liver detoxification enzymes (Glutathione S-Transferase - GST) and eliminating toxins.
Claimed Mechanism (Gerson Therapy):
Coffee's compounds (kahweol, cafestol) supposedly activate GST, which neutralizes toxins and binds them to glutathione, flushing them out via bile and the intestines.
Modern Perspective & Controversy:
Lack of Evidence: Orthodox medicine largely dismisses coffee enemas as ineffective and potentially dangerous.
Reported Benefits (Anecdotal): Proponents and some practitioners still report relief from various symptoms, linking it to gut-brain axis research.
Risks: Medical literature highlights risks like chemical colitis (inflammation of the rectum), even from a single use, with no proven benefits,.
