Many have been there 100 years. You have a pretty good chance of have a home where an oil well once was in Los Angeles County, anywhere there. At first, up to the late 1920's it flowed down to the refineries in ditches, then redwood culvert was put into the ditches because they kept catching fire from cigarette butt.

Oil is what built everything south of San Francisco. To Newport Beach. It built Hollywood, and damned sure built Beverly Hills which was still more about oil wealth than movie stars well into the 1990's
