Pretty soon every English word used to identify a group of people will be considered racists for some bat shite crazy reason. Mexican and Chinese will probably be next.

quote:

Etymologically speaking, there exists a scientific consensus that the word Eskimo comes from the Innu-aimun (Montagnais) word ayas?kimew meaning "a person who laces a snowshoe"...

In Canada and Greenland, the term "Eskimo" is predominantly seen as offensive or "non-preferred", and has been widely replaced by the term "Inuit" or terms specific to a particular group or community. This has resulted in a trend whereby some Canadians and Americans believe that they should not use the word "Eskimo", and use the classifier and typical Canadian word "Inuit" instead, even for Yupik (non-Inuit) people.

Agreed. Just put the issue into volleyball terms, “you Füt faulted” was my line to them.

My guess is that the company is not concerned with the name Eskimo in general, but likely the past history of the brand with cartoonish depictions of Eskimo peoples associated with the brand. I am not Eskimo, but could see how a person of that heritage might perceive this imagery as lampooning or co-opting them as a "mascot" likely without their consent, or at the very least using the NIL of a group without compensation. Now, I do not know for a fact whether or not any Eskimo groups were compensated for usage of the name in the past or present, and I realize I am making an assumption that they have not been.

Wonder if Trump's ever been to Eskimo Joe's. If he's still in Oklahoma, and he hasn't,he should before it gets burned down.

I haven’t had an Eskimo pie in years but screw that. I’m tired of our country caving in to what is a farce. Yes a guy died at the hands of the police. Horrible and that cop should do serious time, BUT all these monuments and such and products that have been around for years and years are going to say frick it????? This is crazy.... here is what I’m gonna do...... the next time I hear of a black person shooting at a white cop after the black guy broke the law I’m going to start a huge rally.... my slogan will be...”I guess it’s ok for black justice, but what about that cop and his family over a senseless killing”.....
