Elmwood always floods. If you put a sprinkler out, the water in the street goes to the sidewalk.

How do the weather forecasters miss this kind of storm?

a 20% chance of rain doesn't mean a 20% chance of rain forming anywhere... it means they expect rain to eventually cover about 20% of a certain area

David Bernard's like "it's almost like a low pressure system is forming right over the city" as he points out rain over the lake appears to be rotating back down over the city

Anywhere online that has live rain gauges for the NOLA area?

I'm no meterologist but I think this is what the call "training"

20% chance of showers should never mean there will be golf ball sized hail, widespread street flooding and 60 mph wind gusts. And pretty sure more than 20% of the coverage area caught some rain today

S&WB just said they have pumps working at 95% and they should be able to handle this storm.

Said 5” in one hour in some parts of the city

I thought it meant a 20% chance of rain somewhere in the viewing area.

Westbank is objectively terrible and the only people who think otherwise are from Gretna.

there was a disturbance in the upper levels that moved this way, it wasn't until late this morning our meteorologist here in Baton Rouge that said it would be a stormy afternoon.

I’m in one of the lowest parts of the city and no flooding whatsoever on my street

it looked like a bounded weak echo region had formed up almost right over the lake... which was helping make things worse

ETA: sorry... not a bounded weak echo... got my meteorology terms messed up

but basically looked like a mini front line over the lake dragging right int the storms
