Long story short I would watch a lee mayweather skreetz fight with interest at what could happen with every outcome on the table
I would watch the same fight between Tyson and lee to watch Bruce lee die

Exactly. He's not a KO artist.
IMO it's just really a matter of the rules devaluing mayweather's skill set.
Tyson won his first 19 fights by KO with 12 of them coming in round 1. See the difference?

Go read Louis Delgado's (Fighting Champ in those days who fought against the best of the best in the ring) view on Lee. He actually sparred with Lee and had this to say in a 1995 interview:
quote:
"I have never seen anyone like Bruce Lee. I have met and sparred with several karate men, but Bruce has been the only one who has baffled me completely. I am completely in awe when I fight with him."

17 of his KOs vs 9
Tyson by comparison knocked out his first 19 opponents 12 in round 1
I'm not saying mayweather is some shite fighter either
I'm just describing what type of fighter he is. And we're talking about a fight where he can be kicked and tackled.

Mayweather chooses to fight a technical fight in the ring. He's not incapable of knocking people out if he wants to fight that way.
But because he's so superior as a technical counter-puncher, it wouldn't make sense for him to take unnecessary risks when he doesn't have to.
Against an amateur like Bruce Lee, he wouldn't have to fight so cautiously.

He's not a power puncher and doesn't punch above his weight. His prowess in the ring is speed and evasion which would be mitigated by the rules of such a fight
Do you realize what it takes to be a fighter of that caliber? I guarantee you, every professional boxer that has ever lived started out fighting in the streets. They all have heart and they all have a meanstreak. They are extremely skilled street fighters. Boxing is so incredibly technical and skilled once you get to that elite of a level. Basically the equivalent of Pedro Martinez in his prime when you are talking Mayweather. It doesn't matter if there isn't a ring or no rules. A pro boxer is a FIGHTER. It's was he does for a living! You think his skill would be mitigated because it's no holds barred?!

I'm saying I don't know, but I know he could throw a quick punch is knowledgeable in fighting styles and is the same size as mayweather...in a fight with rules that mitigate every advantage mayweather enjoys in a fight.
The only thing this thread has done is give me a hankering to watch some vintage Tyson. All this talk about speed, power and evasive prowess. He had all 3 and was never more than a few inches from his opponent

He could punch air really fast and had a basic understanding of the ground game.

Question for the fight enthusiasts in this thread:
Do you think you could land one punch on Mayweather's head in a 12 round boxing match if he wasn't allowed to punch back?
I am a pretty athletic, young guy, and I don't think I could connect. Body? Sure, a couple times but not very clean shots. Head? No way.

What I'm really saying is that I think such rules make mayweather mortal. I don't think it would take some incredible fighter to beat him with such rules. I think the point that lee didn't fight is very valid. The biggest unknown for me is not whether he could fight. I take the word of fighters who say he could, but it's how good he'd be once he got punched in the face. You can hit a guy like mayweather in the face and he doesn't lose composure and remains focused. You hit lee in the face? Who knows. Maybe he has a glass jaw, maybe he fights panicked
I'm open to any outcome in that fight...I just think lee would beat him in THAT fight and not from any expertise or knowledge just a regular dude who isn't big into pro fighting. Who is the better fighter? Mayweather, of course

Have you ever seen Bruce Lee even throw a combination of punches? Has anybody?
The only thing I've ever seen him do is throw a quick little jab-like punch.
I've never seen him shadow box and throw even a simple combination of punches.

12 rounds knowing he couldn't punch back? Yeah because you're not worried about his hands and can do reckless things you otherwise couldn't. But he'd still be tough to hit.

Very valid point. A lot of ballet and cinema muddying the waters but a lot of accomplished fighters say he could fight and with such rules I don't think you'd need to be a great fighter to beat mayweather but rather just a pretty good one
