And it could be implemented quickly, instantly increasing revenues.

When I lived in San Diego they sold a county golf card. Show a drivers license and a current utility bill from inside the county and pay $15 for the card. Gets you a discounted rate at all public golf courses in the county including Torrey pines!

I could walk Torrey at twilight for $18.

My cities municipal course charges more for non-residents also. I thought this was common for most municipal courses.

The Tiger effect is long gone. That's what kept the golf game going for years. Look at courses from 1997-2006, big boom, since then it has died down.

I think they should stop cutting the rough at all.

You HAVE to mow rough eventually.

Save money on maintenance and water and spend it on millions of dollars of artificial turf that will lead to less play and wear out in a few years.

There would be a lot more maintenance costs than you would think on artificial turf. It'd be nearly impossible to play in the summer without having it wet down to keep it cool. Synthetic turf gets REALLY hot.

I'm not a BR citizen. Only have been once. I know some about BREC from posting in the weekly golf thread, but this is not strictly a BR problem. Look at this article: LINK

"According to the National Golf Foundation, only 14 new courses (in 18-hole equivalents) were built in 2014 in the United States and another 157.5 closed their doors, for a net loss of 143.5 courses."

The game of golf is still contracting. The golf boom is hurting the industry now. It grew too fast. Hopefully, it will soon return to an equilibrium for supply and demand.

That's not to say there aren't solutions that could work for BREC, or that BREC has mishandled some things, but the whole industry is still struggling to find the middle ground of supply and demand.

I tried to book a tourney at SM not long ago and they said they were avoiding weekend tournaments...
SM isnt that nice to begin with. its ok. Greens have gotten better, but for same price bluffs or carter plantation win every time

There's a lot of well duh in this statement dude.

They lose money by booking weekend tournaments and piss off the regulars.

Bluffs and Carter are bleeding I'm sure. When Penn is gone I'm worried those places will shutter too.

Santa Maria is a better layout than Carter but being a heavily played public course so close to BR it's always gonna get beat up.

buy cheap property

The land that Beaver Creek is built on was donated to BREC and the owner kept the rights to the surrounding land to build the housing development.
Win,win for him.

I wonder if he's actually made money on it. The place can't be close to 25% built out.

SGREC - "St. George Recreation" is planning 3 new courses, a ski lodge, a waterski park and a mountain hiking trail.

14 courses were built in 2013, compared to 157.5 that closed.

Lower greens fees!

Everytime you see no one playing a hole, you are losing money. Make it so cheap everyone will come out and play. Its just like a Hot Sale at a store.

You can't tax or increase fees into a profit.

Not sure how much has been built versus what is left, but I know they are about to bust open a new filing in the next year or so. They seem to be building it out at a decent pace and not overbuilding.
