I would like to see an article come out about the BR Zoo one day. That thing can't make money right?

The government is not in the business for providing services, save the military.
This is why this country is circling the drain.

I think the BR Zoo is really strapped for cash.

My 3 Step Plan
-Shutdown: I would close and sell City and Clark
-Memberships: Make yearly memberships cheaper for over 50 and under 18. So that its impossible to turn down for the retired and HS golfers. Plus I would have a special 4 month teachers (show proof) membership for the summer.
-Irrigation:Cut irrigation 30% to the 3 courses that generate the least money
-Shutdown: I would close and sell City and Clark
-Memberships: Make yearly memberships cheaper for over 50 and under 18. So that its impossible to turn down for the retired and HS golfers. Plus I would have a special 4 month teachers (show proof) membership for the summer.

Not a bad start. Privatize the courses and all this mess will sort itself out or close.

Privatize every park. Those that don't make money let them close. Concrete or gravel over every bit of grass in the city to save mowing costs. Cut all the trees down to save on leaf blowing.

Kill and stuff all of the animals. Save on food costs and veterinary care.

I actually laughed out loud at this one. Do you play golf in the city? What's 30% of 0?

Besides Howell and city park, they should close the 1st tee(formerly Clark park) as well.

most of the money that webb spent on that renovation a few years ago was spent on adding a big irrigation system
i'm not sure that theyve ever turned it on

BREC can not sell property

BREC senior/junior annual pass for all seven courses is $1350/yr
$112/month. Seems pretty affordable to me.

How will this help increase the revenue at those courses?

Last week it was UC is too expensive, now thoughts of brec closing some of their courses. (we all knew they were losing money and have been for yrs)
Soon there will be no options for golf in br.

Selling the unprofitable courses would benefit all. Could open up areas to new construction and businesses generating more tax revenue. But hey lets just keep making the tax payers cover this trash and keep the courses.

city park
I really think a group of "progressive/forward thinking intellects" are trying to get this done. They want city park course to go away so they can have a bigger green area in the city. Every time I read about the course money issues it makes me wonder. Also, how much of the city park expense is due to the entire area (lakes, dog park, tennis, etc.) I wouldn't be surprised if those are included.
You never hear much about costs to run the rest of the system...zoo, skate park, water park, etc.

Well, if you cant afford it to bad. I am not a fan of having all other tax payers subsidize golf.

No shite. I don't like tennis, animals or kids playing either. While we are at it I don't like bussing people to the mall and back, bikes, old people or people who aren't employed.

Golf Courses just aren't a cash cow. Very few Golf Courses actually make a profit off the course. That's why you see the courses now including subdivisions in the plan.
You have to own a arse ton of land and charge $60-$80 person every 20 minutes or so if you are lucky. Oh and then you have to pay an arse ton of money to keep the course in shape because if you don't you aren't getting the $60-$80 per person.
