lol at how stupid baton rouge DOTD and the metro council are for literally not giving a shite about the people that live in the city and it's drivers.

could have shut down washington st exit decades ago and built another bridge but they'd rather piss away money on study after study.

the local BR government is a joke

Un fricking real how a major interstate can straight up shut down

i've never thought of it as a major interstate.

it's a joke just like BR is!
the highway safety commission should heavily fine BR every damn day for a substandard interstate/hwy system!

You also had the train stopped on those tracks crossing Essen Lane, thus creating another shite show.

I used to think that comments like this were just heat of the moment type comments but I am actually starting to believe this now.

So I-10 through Baton Rouge is not a major interstate?

I know BR traffic is no joke but people here act like its the worst in the nation

I don't think BR traffic is anything too crazy for a city of its size

Of course it could be better, but it was very poorly planned

This is what I am talking about - what were people thinking 30 years ago? When the industrial expansion started taking place along the river a loop should have been waiting.

My kids go to school at Sacred Heart so we are always heading towards downtown / mid city and you are right - if you time things right it is not so bad. It is just frustrating that it is 2015 and we are basically stuck with what we have.

I just don't know where they are gonna find the money to do anything substantial

The Feds are gonna have to pay for most of it, and I'm not even sure how those decisions get made and how the money gets appropriated

Think for just a second what things will be like in 20 years.

I would argue traffic would get MUCH worse.

oh yeah, without a doubt

but don't worry, there will be tons of studies done to tell us how bad the traffic is

It's an Interstate Highway, certainly not the responsibility of the city or the parish to build a new bridge over the Mississippi River.

Now where the city has failed is to ignore the problem, and not bite the bullet and push for a complete overhaul of I-10 from the split across the bridge into WBR parish.

Instead they protect the areas immediately around the I-10 at the expense of the rest of the nation.

On the other hand Kip has pushed for a loop, and that's needed too, but he hasn't gotten a consensus on that issue either so we are stuck with a huge problem that is slowly getting worse and it really shows up on days like today.

The problems we have today were created over 50 years ago by the engineers, planners, and politicians who built the I-10 originally.

I know people hate the studies but they are pretty cheap compared to the cost of actually building something

It would take a lot more studies to add up to enough to actually do something

I'd love to shake the hand of the man who thought it would be a good idea to funnel I-10 into one lane right off the bridge.

Not gonna lie, I stay in the Washington street exit lane until it ends before I get over. Sorry, not sorry for hardcore merging

The fact that the entire east bound section of the bridge was shut down for 6-7 hours due to a traffic collision on Friday is a joke. The accident happened around 1:30 PM and they hadn't cleared it until around 8:00 PM. The fact that people sat in rubbernecking traffic for over an hour around 7:00 on west bound is another joke. The whole thing is laughable. (Not when you're sitting in it though )

How many travelers who didn't know the lay of the land didn't know they had to merge abruptly and instead went down the exit ramp?

How many survived?
