Subtle “I’m too poor to own a boat lift” thread. Maybe your uber-experienced boat driver self should have offered to give him a hand?

If you do everything for them they will be stuck in the millennial stage of life.

Or you help and teach them, so they aren't in your way next time, and maybe in the future they will help and teach someone else. Maybe I'm just old fashioned.

We had a long narrow driveway. You had to pull past it, then reverse and back the trailer into a 90 degree turn without jacknifing or going into the ditch on either side. Oh, and you had to use the side mirrors because there was limited visibility out the back window. If you missed more than twice you might as well leave it out on the street overnight and try again tomorrow because your nerves were shot.Good times.

You have to understand in Louisiana if you were not backing the truck up correctly at the ramp by age 12, daddy was going to whoop your arse in front of the whole boat ramp.

Most Louisiana people are happy to help out whenever hey can.

Of course there are the random butt wipes like you.

If you haven’t had a boating fail you haven’t boated long enough.

This. Ill help when I can because Ive had some gaffs. Especially, when I had my old godevil surface drive. No neutral/reverse meant lots of fun rolling up Reggio canal on an incoming tide with a southeast wind. My arse would pucker on the approach. Could break a railroad spike in half with my butt cheeks. Ive bumped other boats, forgot to put in the plug…all the usual stuff. Bad luck to make fun of others.

I help people out at the ramp all the time. The other day my brother and I fully trailered a boat owned by a woman who was out with friends trying to have a girls day and were just doing their best. Who cares—not everyone has been doing it their entires lives like we have.

People act like they deserve a medal for being able to trailer a boat when other people don’t know how.

I never had many problems as I got into teenage years launching a boat. One time and I was late 20s I went to Darbonne for the first time. I was launching a pretty damn small boat which to me are harder to back in. I don't remember what part of Darbonne but the poles were way off on how wide the launch was. I backed in and tire went off the launch, had 2 groups of people waiting on me. Tried again and pressure overcame me and became a colossal fail, one guy walked over and started backing me in, I was so embarrassed.

Someone posted the gif but here's the video with Family Guy

This poor guy took 30min to back his trailer up to pick his boat up. Too much to the right…too much to the left…jackknife…pull back up…repeat. Me and another old boy were shaking our heads laughing.

You watched a dude for 30 minutes and didn’t help?

A few weeks ago we launched at Sabine Pass with an incoming tide and a south wind. There was a trailer backed down next to us and they had a guy trying to get his 20' aluminum onto the trailer. Wind and current were pushing his boat off course and he was in a panic. Instead of pointing the nose to the side of the trailer and letting everything move into place just as he got to the trailer he kept trying to reverse to straighten up... in the current and wind. About 3-4 different times he ended up with his motor toward the trailer and the nose of the boat pointing toward open water.

Just kept trying to salvage every bad approach by absolutely throttling it down in reverse. It was actually funny and sad at the same time.
