The quality of life in Bogalusa is better than most people think. Lower middle class people own homes. There are a couple nearby private schools that are affordable. And crime is almost entirely black-on-black and drug related. There is almost no traffic. People, white and black, are amiable.

The paper mill almost never smells any more.

An uncle of mine lived there a few years way back in the day, and he pronounces it Bo-guh-loo-sa.
