Heard an interview with an entrepreneur who was struggling with a different type of rejection than you. It was paralyzing, and he knew this would ultimately wreck his venture. He decided to do something about it.

For the next year, he would practice getting rejected...he would ask every business that he visited for a discount or a freebee. Starbucks: "Can I get 10% off?" Men's Wearhouse: "Can you throw in a couple of ties?" McDonald's: "Can I you upgrade my drink to an XL?" Everywhere. He asked for discounts and negotiated free upgrades. He didn't make up reasons. He didn't lie. If asked, he would just shrug and say he was hoping to get a good deal. Sometimes he got them. And sometimes they said no.

What he found was that a surprising number of front line workers either had the capacity to give discounts or they would break the rules and give them anyway. What he also found that his fear of rejection disappeared. Hearing the word "no" became common, but inconsequential.

He counted this year as very formative to his development as a businessman and a person. I've actually tried this for a few months and have experienced identical results.
