Where do you people come from? It's like you you've taken every stereotype you've ever heard and just ran with it.
Are there issues - sure. Housing is expensive and scarce, traffic can really suck, and yes, more and more people are moving here.
That said, the people that are moving here are educated and employed - I could give two-shits from where they come, as they generally like the Texas culture once they get here.
The economy is great, so I have no clue why someone said if you need a full-time job, then you shouldn't look here. As long as you're not looking for a job in oil, then you should be okay. Even manufacturing has picked-up in and around Central Texas.
There's a shite-ton of stuff to do here between festivals, music, SXSW, outdoor activities, etc. Anyone that says Austin is boring...isn't doing it right.
I mean, it doesn't surprise me that an Aggie is shitting on the town. I mean, I think we're all aware of the penis envy that has consistently come from College Station. And for anyone to use the Liberal angle in bashing Austin, then they're just not very smart, or have never looked at a voting map. Is Austin proper mostly Dem - sure, but every county around it in the MSA is BLOOD RED.
I find it strange people have such a strong negative opinion about one city versus another.
i've lived in Nola and then Houston and now in Austin . they all have their own great things about them, but it's not going to blow your mind living in one verse another. just make sure that you have a great job you're happy with and you enjoy life in general and you can be happy anywhere.
The liberal generalization is so fricking stupid. Houston metro votes democrat. every major metro does. every major metro does.
hipsters are everywhere, there's no avoiding them. here they are mostly relegated to south of the river. in Nola they were in every neighborhood but Lakeview
